How to use AirDrop For Your MacBook

The most common ways of transferring files and data from one system to another are either by using some external storage device or by emailing them. But transferring the data first to an external storage device and then copying it on another system, or uploading files from one system and then downloading it on another can take a lot of time. But if you wish to transfer data and files from one Mac to another Mac, then a feature known as ‘AirDrop‘ can save your time and effort.

What is AirDrop?

Introduced in OS X Lion, AirDrop is a feature which helps you to transfer your files and data wirelessly from one Mac to another.

How to Use AirDrop:

Macs with OS X 10.7 and later come with automatically enabled AirDrop. You can find AirDrop in left menu of Finder Window. To enable it on old Macs, open ‘Applications’ folder, select ‘Utilities’ folder then select ‘Terminal’. Now enter this command ‘defaults write com.apple. Network Browser Browse All Interfaces 1’. Then click on ‘Return’ and enter this command ‘ kill all Finder’. After doing this, you will find AirDrop in ‘Finder’.

Open both the MacBooks. Now open this feature on both the systems. You can find ‘AirDrop’ in the left side menu of ‘Finder’ window. If one of the two systems is not running the OS X 10.7, then you have to connect both of your Macs to a single network.

After opening ‘AirDrop’ on both the MacBooks, wait as both of your systems appear. After the connection is established, an icon will appear on your window, representing the other system.

Now select, drag and then drop the files you wish to transfer to the other system. (Tip: drop the selected files directly in the Mac’s icon). Now press ‘Send’ button. The ‘Send’ button will send a request to transfer selected files to the other system.

Now by using the other system, accept the request for data transfer. In order to save the transferred data, click on the ‘Save’ tab.

After you accept the request for data transfer, your systems will immediately start exchanging data. Wait for the transfer process to get done. Once the transfer process is completed; you can find the transferred files in ‘Downloads’ folder, which you can find in ‘Home’ directory.
